I’m going into my garage and start throwing stuff away. I am a crafter though and wonder are there things I might just need.
I’ve got old clothes, tools, parts, xmas decor, wood, fence, paints that are years old, sprinkler stuff, fan hoses, brackets, bottles, mixture of nails/screws. What would you do, just out with everything? I don’t want to be a hoarder, but good reuseable stuff might be shelved for later. Whatayousay?
I have the same problem… I keep things that I KNOW I’ll need later, or think I’ll likely need. I compare the cost of the item to the storage issue- is it worth keeping the space?
There is also the time test- if I haven’t used it in X number of years, am I ever going to need it?
For items I don’t keep, I give them to Goodwill or to the local Freecycle group. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/madisonfreecycle/)
You should check if you have something similar in your area. That way when you do get rid of something at least it will still get used rather than end up in a landfill.
Another option is a program that lets you trade items, if you don’t want to just give things away, or bother with a garage sale, it to trade it through a Stuff Exchange (like this one:http://www.madisonstuffexchange.com/) ). Also local, so you’ll need to check your area.
Freecycle is great because you’d be surprised the things people need. Someone will say "I need some broken pottery" and you say "Sweet! I can get rid of mine!".
the kind of things that give me good memories of times…i keep and all the other crap that seems worthless….i toss….and of course what i need i obviously keep

Have a yard sale..might as well put some money into your savings account from the items you held onto for so long. If you don’t want to do that..Call up Salavation army and have them come take a look and see if it is anything they want. You can then get a tax deduction for your donation.
I am not hold onto any materialistic items. I hate things in storage and hardly have anything in my home. Too many items in my home to me is just noise in my head..Bad energy.
Get rid of it and enjoy your peace.

OMG I throw NOTHING away. Bad, BAD habit I’ve been exercising for at least 30 years! Some of the things in my collection(s) are:
twisty-ties
rubber-bands
the plastic scoops from laundry soap
the plastic scoops from baby formula
empty baby formula cans (the ones with lids)
the metal lids from frozen juice cans
jars - glass AND plastic
And my list goes on, and on, and on, and on!!!
